At Shawmut Equipment, we pride ourselves on equipping the crane industry with highly skilled professionals through comprehensive training programs. One individual leading the charge in this mission is Ian Mayo, a sales representative who recently achieved a significant milestone in crane safety and certification.
Mayo has earned his PEP-MBL (Practical Exam Proctor-Mobile Cranes) certification as a CCO proctor for Swing Cab and Fixed Cab cranes, a crucial credential that allows Shawmut Equipment to offer CCO crane testing in-house without the need for third-party organizations. This accomplishment isn't just a win for Shawmut, but a valuable asset for crane operators and training centers looking for accessible, high-quality certification processes.
Getting certified as a proctor involved dedication and mastery. Mayo explained, “First, I took a course on Zoom followed by an online exam. Then, I traveled to Indiana for a two-day, hands-on class where I practiced CCO mock exams to understand the process of proctoring crane practicals. Recently, I completed a mock practical exam at Shawmut, re-taking my swing cab and fixed cab exams under the watchful eye of a CCO auditor."
Mayo’s passion for the crane industry is evident. “I love being more involved in this field,” he shared. “From running cranes and owning a crane business to now selling cranes and proctoring exams, it’s fulfilling to be completely invested in this industry. I get the chance to help seasoned professionals and newcomers alike build their careers.”
By becoming a certified CCO proctor, Mayo not only demonstrates his commitment to advancing safety and standards in the crane industry but also strengthens Shawmut Equipment's role as a trusted resource for operators seeking certification. His expertise and enthusiasm continue to make a meaningful impact on operators and the broader crane community.
“I get the opportunity to help people in this industry,” said Mayo, “and that makes all the effort worthwhile.”
