Cianbro Corporation’s Power & Energy Division is utilizing the versatile Grove GHC55 hydraulic crawler crane on their most recent transmission project, 345kV Energized Changeouts. The 55 US ton tele-boom crawler crane has been put to work replacing eighty 345kV structures throughout the state of Maine over a five-month period.
The GHC55 is being used to assist the line crews framing the new structures. The structures are being replaced under energized conditions, so the machine needs to suspend the energized conductor with the use of link sticks while the conductor is being transferred to the new structure.
The machine allows for quick jobsite setup, while maintaining the ability reach all necessary areas without the need for additional counterweight. The crane is equipped with a 30’ 10” – 99’ 9” main boom and 21’ 4” offsettable swingaway extension and a 21’ 4” fly jib extension.
The GHC55’s gross vehicle weight and low ground-bearing pressures allow the crane to be easily transported around the uneven jobsite. It’s rugged, heavy-duty crawler tracks and telescopic boom were engineered for exceptional operator ergonomics and maneuverability. The GHC Series combines excellent gradeability and lift capacity with 100 percent pick and carry capability.
